Firefox Smart Window adds AI form filling from tabs and page watching

Mozilla is expanding Firefox’s Smart Window beta with AI suggestions for web forms and alerts when selected pages change.

Mozilla is adding two practical features to Smart Window, Firefox’s AI-powered browsing experience: form filling that can use information from open tabs, and page monitoring for changes. The update matters because it moves browser AI closer to everyday admin work, such as applying for jobs or tracking pages you would otherwise check manually.

The features are rolling out to the Smart Window beta on desktop in the US and Canada, according to Mozilla via The Verge. Mozilla says availability in other countries will follow in the “coming months.”

Smart Window can draft form entries from your open tabs

The new form feature is designed for situations where the information you need is already open in the browser. Mozilla gives the example of Smart Window taking details from an online portfolio or LinkedIn page and suggesting work history text for a job application.

To use it, a person clicks into a form that has at least four text fields. Firefox then shows a “Fill from sources” option, which displays the tabs the browser plans to use. Users can choose which tabs to include or remove before Firefox generates suggested text from those sources.

For freelancers, job seekers and small business owners, the immediate use case is reducing repetitive copying between tabs. A profile page, portfolio, product description or company bio can become source material for a form without manually switching back and forth. The important limitation is that Mozilla says the feature currently works with text fields on web forms.

Mozilla says it is working on support for dropdown menus and PDFs, but those are not part of the current capability described in the update.

A useful workflow, with a clear data-sharing note

Mozilla says source page data is shared with Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite, the AI model that produces the text suggestions. That makes tab selection more than a convenience step: it is also the moment to decide which pages should be used as source material.

Google Gemini is listed here as the underlying model named by Mozilla for generating the suggestions. Firefox Smart Window itself is the browser feature being updated.

For teams that handle client information, invoices, private applications or internal documents in browser tabs, the practical advice is simple: review the tabs shown in the source list before accepting the workflow. The feature is built around user selection and deselection of tabs, so the safest habit is to include only the pages needed for the form at hand.

This also puts Firefox in the same broad trend as browser-based AI assistants that use open tabs as context. Emonarc recently covered a related move in Chrome, where ChatGPT’s Chrome extension can use open tabs as context. Mozilla’s version, as described here, is focused on producing form suggestions inside Firefox’s Smart Window beta.

Firefox can now watch pages for changes

The second addition turns Smart Window into a lightweight webpage monitor. Users can ask Firefox to track a page for things like sales, new job listings or other updates.

Setup happens inside the Smart Window chat. Users type “/watch,” describe what they want Firefox to look for, and add the webpages to monitor. Firefox can then check those pages daily or weekly, according to Mozilla, but only while the browser is open.

When Firefox finds the requested change, it can send an alert through the Tasks button on the toolbar. It can also send a desktop notification if desktop notifications are enabled.

Mozilla has also set limits for inactive watches. If Firefox does not find a change after 60 days, it will pause monitoring. After 90 days without detecting a change, it will stop watching entirely.

That makes the feature better suited to practical, near-term tracking than permanent monitoring. It could help someone watch a hiring page, a sale page or a frequently updated listing without building an automation in a separate tool, as long as they are using Firefox and keep the browser open when checks need to happen.

What to watch as the beta expands

The most important near-term questions are how well the form suggestions handle messy real-world pages, and how quickly Mozilla extends support beyond text fields. Dropdown menus and PDFs are common in applications and business forms, so their absence will shape how useful the first version feels.

Availability is also limited for now. Mozilla says the new Smart Window features are rolling out to desktop beta users in the US and Canada, with other countries coming later. For creators, marketers and small businesses, this is worth watching if Firefox is already part of the daily workflow, especially for repetitive forms and simple page tracking.
